The name Lukhanyo originates from the Xhosa African tribe, the second largest cultural group in South Africa. Lukhanyo in isiXhosa means “enlightenment” or “shining”.

Lukhanyo Reserve or “ "Place of Enlightenment/Illumination"” was named after the owners Dr. Mark and Noeleen Bristow were enjoying a tradition African braai under the night skies and noticed the moonlight illuminating the hillside lodge. Many guests have experienced this breathtaking site during a full moon!
